THE INVENTORS OF “NUMERIC NOTATIONS” AND “SOLMISASI / SOLMIZATION” IN THE MUSIC WORLD IS MUSLIM
DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THE NOTATION OF MUSIC “1 2 3 4 5 6 7 I”?
WHO is the inventor?
“Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Si Do” is Solmization musical scale recognized and used internationally throughout the world was declared that is created by Guido Arezzo.
Do you know who is the real inventor of those notations? Evidently the first inventor who created Solmization is Muslim scientists, Al-Mausili Ishaq (died 850 M) He is one of the largest Muslim musician in Arabic music world at that time of the days of caliphate period.
This important fact was first disclosed by Jean Benjamin de la Borde, He is a scientist and the French composer. In his book; Essai Surla Musique Ancienne et et Moderne (1780). Jean Benjamin alphabetically mention if Solmization discovered by Muslim scholars. Solmization consists of syllables (Solmization) in the Arabic alphabet, there are; Mi, Fa, Shad, La, Sin, Dal, and Ra.
According to Jean Benjamin, Arabic notation alphabet was then transliterated by European scientists into Latin language, and somehow claimed as St. Jhon Hymne (Hymn St. Jhohanes), transliteration is done by Italian musicians; Guido Van Arezzo (995-1050) whose age is much different from Muslim Musicians "Ishaq Al-Mausili" the inventor of the music writing system with his Solmization.
At one time, the British broadcast present music history program. They shamelessly stating that; Guido was the inventor of the Solmization system, without stated the fact that actually it was a finding by a Muslim scientist. But Jean, the person who knows the truth, is not willing to that statement. So, Jean took the action that Solmization was invented by Muslim scientists. It is also supported by other European musicians including Guillaume Andre Villoteau (1759-1839) who also recognize that the inventor of Solmization was a Muslim scientist.
Jean Benjamin de la Borde doing research by comparing the Solmization of Guido with the Arabic Solmization alphabet to prove that his statement was true. Let us compare the following notation:
Arabic notation: Mi, Fa, Shad, La, Sin, Dal, Ra
Guido notation: MI, Fa, Sol, La, Ti, Ut, Re
Music Notation now: Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Si, Do, Re
If we compare the three of those notations, evidently there were no significant differences in that writing of Solmization music notation. Hence, we should feel proud of Islam and Muslim scholars that if musical notation has been used by Muslim musicians since the 9th century.
Solmization introduced by Ishaq Al-Mausili in his book, Book of Notes and Rhythms and the Great Book of Songs, which is so popular in the West. Also, the other Musicians Muslims were also introduced Arabic Solmization alphabet were: Arab Ibn al-Farabi (872 M-950 M) in the Book of Al-Mausiqul Kabir. Additionally, Ziryab (789 M-857 M), a music expert and botanist from Baghdad, developing the use of Solmization in Spain long time ago before Guiddo Arezzo appears with his Guido's Hand notation.
Western civilization is often claimed that Guido Arezzo was a musician who first introduced the Solmization notation through Guido's Hand. Apparently, the Guido's Hand notation owned by Guido van Arezzo was just copied or plagiarism from Arabic notations that have been discovered and used since the 9th century by Muslim scientists.
